Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, is grappling with the issue of trash left behind by tourists.

According to reports from foreign media outlets like The Mirror, Amsterdam collected 73 metric tons (80.5 tons) of trash from last month into early this month following the Pride events.

The massive amount of garbage tourists leave has attracted seagulls, rats, and other pests. Residents have voiced their frustration, with some declaring in a newspaper statement, “We are living in a landfill. Amsterdam has become one of the dirtiest cities in the world.”

Authorities invested 12 million euros (approximately US$13 million) to tackle excessive tourism, but residents argue that little has been done to address overflowing trash bins and pest problems.

One inhabitant, Karin Klooster, remarked that the street trash is not being collected. She continued, “Once voted the most beautiful street in Amsterdam, now a misery full of dirt with an impassable sidewalk. She also complained that the stench has become so pervasive that it permeates their homes.
