Many people are exploring new ways to enjoy ramen by adding soft tofu to boost its nutritional value.

This combination enhances flavor and improves its nutritional value. However, many are concerned about ramen’s high sodium and calorie content. The fried carbohydrates in ramen can cause rapid spikes in blood sugar, making weight management more difficult.

Ramen noodles are made by frying flour in oil, which results in a high glycemic index that raises blood sugar levels, making them less suitable for preventing or managing diabetes. Most ramen products contain around 400 calories or more, contributing to their high caloric content and potential challenges with weight control.

Adding soft tofu is an effective way to address these issues. Soft tofu is rich in protein and low in calories, which benefits gut health. According to the National Standard Food Composition Table, 100 grams of soft tofu contains 6.85 grams of protein and only 0.69 grams of carbohydrates, helping to balance the salty elements of ramen.

You can easily prepare soft tofu ramen by cutting it into large pieces and adding them to the dish. This simple addition provides amino acids, calcium, and iron, all supporting metabolism. You can also add an egg for an extra protein boost, enhancing the meal’s nutritional value and flavor.

Another option is to add vegetables rich in vitamins and dietary fiber. Ideal choices include cabbage, napa cabbage, onions, and tomatoes. These vegetables help lower saturated fat and cholesterol while aiding in sodium excretion. Napa cabbage retains vitamin C even when heated, and the lycopene in tomatoes becomes more active when cooked. Onions are beneficial for managing blood pressure and maintaining healthy blood vessels.

However, it’s important to remember that not all the downsides of ramen are eliminated. Regularly consuming the salty ramen broth can increase blood pressure and strain the stomach lining. Therefore, it’s best not to drink the broth to the last drop. Practicing healthy eating habits is crucial, even when indulging in a bowl of ramen. Moderation is essential, even with just one serving.
