Fresh Meat Tips: Why Cooking Oil is the Best-Kept Secret for Long-Lasting Quality

Daniel Kim Views

How do you store meat after purchasing it? If you just put it in the refrigerator without knowing how to keep it fresh, the taste and quality of the meat may quickly deteriorate. Today, we’ll share some tips on how to store meat and extend its storage period. In particular, using cooking oil is a great way to maintain freshness!

1. The First Step to Keeping Meat Fresh: Prepare the Wrap

First, wrapping the meat properly when you bring it home to maintain its freshness is crucial. Prepare the wrap according to the size of the meat and place the meat on it. This basic wrapping technique helps prevent moisture from evaporating from the meat.

2. Prevent Oxidation with Cooking Oil

Using cooking oil when storing meat helps prevent oxidation, allowing it to stay fresh longer. Apply cooking oil evenly to both sides of the meat. The oil forms a protective layer on the surface, minimizing contact with air and preventing the meat from drying out or developing unpleasant odors. This simple method can significantly extend the meat’s storage period.

3. Wrap It Tightly

After applying the cooking oil, wrap the meat tightly in plastic wrap. The key is to block the meat from air exposure completely. Properly wrapped meat is suitable for refrigeration or freezing and can stay fresh longer.

4. Refrigerator Storage

When refrigerating meat, storing it in the designated meat section of the fridge is best. This section usually maintains a lower temperature, making it more suitable for keeping meat fresh than regular compartments.

Meat Storage Duration: How Long Can Meat Be Stored?

The storage period for meat varies based on the method used, but generally, it’s best to use refrigerated meat within 2 to 3 days. For frozen storage, pork can stay fresh for about 6 months, while beef can last anywhere from 6 to 12 months. Of course, proper packaging before freezing is essential, and applying cooking oil can help maintain quality for longer.

With these meat storage tips, you can keep your meat fresh for a long time. Properly package and apply cooking oil to prevent oxidation right after purchase. This will significantly extend the storage period of your meat, allowing you to cook it more freshly next time.
