Are You Storing Eggs Wrong? Tips for Keeping Them Fresh Longer

Daniel Kim Views

Where do you usually keep your eggs? Most people store them in the refrigerator’s door. While this method may work, there’s a better way to ensure your eggs stay fresh and safe. Today, I’ll share some tips to help you keep your eggs fresher for longer and make them safer to eat!

Store Eggs in the Main Part of the Refrigerator

Instead of placing eggs in the refrigerator door, please keep them in the central part of the fridge. The door experiences frequent temperature changes and impacts from opening and closing, which can cause eggs to develop tiny cracks or lose freshness.

In contrast, the refrigerator’s main compartment maintains a more consistent temperature, which helps keep eggs fresher.

Cook broken eggs immediately

If you find any cracked eggs, cook them immediately. Cracked eggs can be a breeding ground for bacteria, so it’s safest not to cook and consume them immediately. Avoid storing cracked eggs for an extended period.

Point the Sharp End Down!

When storing eggs, place them with the pointed end down. The rounded end contains an air sac that helps the egg stay fresh. This simple adjustment can significantly extend the freshness of your eggs.

Don’t Wash Eggs Before Storing

Washing eggs to remove dirt before storing them might be tempting, but this is not advisable. The eggshell has a natural protective coating that prevents bacteria from entering. Washing removes this layer, increasing the risk of contamination. It’s best to store eggs unwashed. If you need to clean them, do so right before use.

In Summary

Keeping eggs fresh is easy! Store them in the main part of the refrigerator, cook any cracked eggs immediately, and always keep them with the pointed end down. By following these simple steps, you can enjoy fresh eggs longer. Keep these tips in mind to ensure your eggs remain at their best!
