5 Pro Tips for Picking the Perfect Apple Straight from a Greengrocer

Daniel Kim Views

How do you usually choose delicious apples? We typically pick fresh apples with a deep red color, thinking they’re good. But sometimes, even those apples don’t taste as great as expected.

So today, we will share tips for picking premium apples, as taught by a greengrocer.

First! Choose apples with a lot of freckles on the surface

You will see tiny yellow freckles looking closely at the apple’s skin. The more sunlight an apple receives, the more freckles it has. The more freckles an apple has, the sweeter and more nutritious it tends to be!

Second! Pick apples with fresh stems

For newly harvested apples, those with fresh, green stems are the ones just picked. The fresher the apple, the crispier and more delicious it will be.

However, stored apples may have dried-out stems. You can expect a delicious apple if the stem and the blossom end are not split.

Third! Choose apples with a rough surface

Some apples have smooth surfaces, while others feel a bit rough. Smooth apples are often grown under bags, resulting in slightly lower sweetness.

Fourth! Choose apples that feel firm and heavy when you touch them

The more complex the apple feels like a rock, and the heavier it is for its size, the tastier it will be.

Finally! Look for apples with a deep red color and no green tinge

Apples with a green tint haven’t fully ripened and might not taste as good. The skin of a fully ripened apple will have an even color without any green.

Choose delicious apples to enjoy both great taste and health benefits!
