Dataland, America’s first AI art museum, is set to open in Los Angeles. The project is led by Refik Anadol Studio, founded by the acclaimed AI artist Refik Anadol. The architecture firm Gensler will design the building, covering approximately 20,000 square feet (1,858 square meters) and including four gallery spaces.

According to The Guardian, Anadol, who is Turkish, has showcased his AI works at prestigious venues such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Serpentine Galleries, and the United Nations Headquarters. His notable piece, “Unsupervised,” displayed at MoMA, continuously generates images using more than 138,000 records over 200 years.

Anadol is also recognized for his collaboration with NVIDIA. Four years ago, he presented “Machine Hallucination,” a new media artwork that utilized NVIDIA’s GPUs. In March 2024, he was the opening performer at NVIDIA’s AI conference, GTC 2024.

Anadol stated his goal to create a research space dedicated to innovative works by artists, noting efforts to equip the museum with cloud computing and specialized sensors. Titled Dataland, the museum will showcase Anadol’s work from the past decade. While the opening date remains unannounced, the target is late 2025.
