Thailand Unveils Its Seven Wonders: Journey Through Magical Winter Festivals

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has unveiled Thailand’s Seven Wonders, a lineup of seven magical winter festivals. From the enchanting Loi Krathong to the electrifying New Year Countdown, these festivals dazzle with stunning illuminations, mouthwatering food, exhilarating sports, rich cultural experiences, and lively music.

The centerpiece of the celebrations is Loi Krathong, the iconic Festival of Lights. This festival boasts an 800-year history in the Sukhothai Kingdom in the 13th century. Tiny, flower-adorned boats called Krathong are floated (Loi) down rivers as an offering to honor the water gods.

While the festival lights up the entire country, Chiang Mai elevates it to a new level with its Golden Sail Parade, DIY Krathong-making workshops, cooking classes, and traditional music performances.

At the same time, the Chiang Mai CAD Khomloy Sky Lantern Festival, rooted in the Lanna culture of northern Thailand, will take place. Thousands of lanterns will float into the night sky, carrying wishes to Buddha. The breathtaking scene resembles a moment straight out of Tangled—but in real life!

These two spectacular festivals will be held at Tha Phae Gate, along the Ping River, at Nawarat Bridge, and near the Three Kings Monument. They illuminate the night on the full moon of the 12th lunar month, which falls on November 15 this year.

Sorawong Thienthong, Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, remarked, “We’re taking Thailand’s traditional festivals to the next level, showcasing our vibrant local culture to tourists from every corner of the globe.”
