Paris has been ranked the world’s most attractive tourist destination for the fourth consecutive year among the top 100 cities.
On Thursday, CNN and other outlets reported that the U.K.-based market research firm Euromonitor International released its 2024 Top 100 City Destinations report on Wednesday, highlighting this achievement.
The rankings of the top 100 city destinations are announced annually. They evaluate major cities based on tourism, sustainability, economic trends, health, and safety categories.
Following Paris, the top 10 list includes Madrid, Tokyo, Rome, Milan, New York, Amsterdam, Sydney, Singapore, and Barcelona.
Seoul ranked 12th, while London ranked 10th in last year’s survey. London fell to 13th despite being second in tourism infrastructure. It failed to rank in the top ten for tourism policy, sustainability, health, and safety.
Meanwhile, Bangkok, Thailand, emerged as the most visited city by international tourists, recording 32.4 million visitors—approximately 10 million more than Istanbul, Turkey, last year’s leader with 23 million visitors.
Europe had the most representation among the top ten cities, including six towns.
New York was the only city in the United States to make the top ten, while Los Angeles ranked 18th.
The rankings are determined using tourism, sustainability, economic performance, health, and safety in major cities worldwide.
Euromonitor International noted that Paris boasts excellent travel policies and infrastructure, attracting 70 million tourists this year alone.
According to Euromonitor International, benefiting from the weak yen, Tokyo welcomed nearly 13 million visitors this year, surpassing pre-pandemic levels.
Bangkok is the most visited city by international travelers, with 32.4 million visitors, surpassing last year’s leader, Istanbul, which had 23 million visitors.
London ranked third with 21.7 million visitors, followed by Hong Kong (20.5 million), Mecca (19.3 million), Antalya (19.3 million), Dubai (18.2 million), Macau (18 million), Paris (17.4 million), and Kuala Lumpur (16.5 million).
Euromonitor International also reported a 19 percent increase in global international flight passengers this year, driven by rising travel demand.
