The world’s steepest cable car line, the Schilthorn Skyline, has just opened in Switzerland.
The Schilthorn Skyline celebrated its grand opening on December 13 and officially started official operations the next day. This thrilling ride starts in Stechelberg and makes three jaw-dropping stops at Mürren, Birg, and finally, Schilthorn.
The stretch between Stechelberg and Mürren boasts an insane 159.4% gradient. In just four heart-pounding minutes, you’ll zoom up 775 meters (2,543 feet) over a distance of 1,194 meters 3,917 feet.
A spokesperson from Schilthornbahn, the company behind the engineering marvel, teased an upcoming project, stating that the Birg to Schilthorn route is undergoing a fabulous makeover, scheduled to debut next March. They encouraged everyone to get ready for a whole new experience.
This cable car isn’t just turning heads; it’s tapping into the hot new travel trend of “Set Jetting.” For those not in the know, Set Jetting involves living out your favorite on-screen moments by visiting iconic film and TV locations.
Your adventure peaks at Piz Gloria, where the cable car stops, is a revolving restaurant at a breathtaking 2,970 meters (9,742 feet) on Schilthorn Mountain. This culinary carousel spins every 45 minutes, serving up 360-degree views of the stunning Schilthorn range with your meal. And for all you Bond fans out there, this spot was immortalized in the 1969 classic 007: On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Now, that’s what we call dinner with a view.
