wikitree Views

Many of us are left feeling the aftermath of festive indulgence in our bellies after year-end parties. Overindulging in rich foods, excessive drinking, and general overeating can leave us feeling uncomfortably full and bloated. But the right drinks are a simple solution to soothe your troubled tummy. Based on insights from US health professional media Eat This, Not That, we’ve rounded up six beverages with your digestive system singing your praises in no time.

1. Ginger tea

When your stomach is about to burst, reach for a steaming cup of ginger tea. This spicy elixir works wonders by helping your stomach contents move smoothly, giving your digestion a much-needed boost.

Ginger has a knack for kicking out excess gas, quickly deflating that bloated feeling.

2. Green tea

Green tea is packed with antioxidants and catechins. It calms your digestive system and shrinks that bloated feeling. The catechins work overtime to reduce gas and aid digestion. So, after your next big meal, treat yourself to a warm cup of green tea and feel the light wash over you.

3. Water

Sometimes, the simplest solution is the best one. Water is your body’s best friend when fighting constipation-induced bloating. When dehydrated, your body absorbs water from your food during digestion, leading to hard stools and complex bowel movements.

This can cause a gas buildup, leaving you feeling like a balloon. Staying well-hydrated will keep things moving smoothly and eliminate that bloated feeling.

4. Kombucha

Kombucha is a fermented beverage made from tea, sugar, yeast, and bacterial cultures. While the science is still catching up, kombucha is teeming with probiotics that help balance your gut microbiome. A happy gut means smoother digestion and less bloating.

Kombucha is also naturally low in sugar, as most of it is consumed during fermentation. Since too much sugar can worsen bloating, this low-sugar option is a win-win!

5. Kefir

If you haven’t heard of kefir, get ready to meet your new favorite drink. This fermented milk beverage is like a probiotic powerhouse, packed with good bacteria that love to help out your digestive system. These friendly microbes work hard to break down food in your gut and wave goodbye to gas and bloating.

According to the experts, people who sipped on kefir’s probiotics for three weeks saw a noticeable decrease in belly bloat. Plus, it’s great for overall gut health, so your entire digestive system will be positively affected.

6. Golden milk

Golden milk blends turmeric, milk, pepper, ginger, and honey. Turmeric contains curcumin, an active ingredient that effectively relieves bloating and indigestion. Ginger also aids digestion and eliminates gas, making golden milk effective in reducing bloating.
