Avoid These Hangover Fixes: They Might Do More Harm Than Good

Many people battle nasty hangovers after holiday parties. But beware: tempting quick fixes might fail to help and harm your health.

Coffee Isn’t Your Hangover Hero: Here’s Why

Coffee may seem like the go-to cure, but it’s not your hangover hero. While caffeine might perk you up, it’s a diuretic, making you run to the bathroom more often. For your already dehydrated body, that’s the last thing you need. Instead, prioritize hydration with water or electrolyte-rich drinks. If you’re craving caffeine, try green tea instead. It’s gentler on your system and even helps break down hangover-causing compounds. Just limit it to one or two cups.

Spicy Hangover Food: A Recipe for Disaster

Spicy food might also seem appealing when feeling queasy, but it’s a bad idea. Your stomach is irritated from last night’s drinks, and piling on spices or greasy foods will only worsen things. Instead, opt for soothing clear soups like soybean sprout soup, which is known to help your liver process alcohol more efficiently.

Popping Pills for That Hangover Headache? Not So Fast

When dealing with a pounding headache, think twice before popping painkillers. If there’s still alcohol in your system, acetaminophen (like Tylenol) can be harmful to your liver, as it produces toxic byproducts. If you need relief, ibuprofen (like Advil) is a better choice, but take it with food to protect your stomach from irritation.
