Beware of Side Effects from Eye Cosmetic Surgery. JTBC reported exclusively on the 20th that a patient lost vision in one eye after undergoing eye surgery at a cosmetic surgery clinic.

According to reports, a man in his 50s, Mr. Kim, had eye surgery on both eyes in May at a renowned cosmetic surgery clinic in Gangnam, Seoul. The surgery he underwent involved cosmetic adjustment of the fat under the eyes. This includes surgeries like transplanting fat under the eyes, removing excessive fat, and rearranging the fat evenly.

A man who underwent eye surgery at a renowned cosmetic surgery clinic in Gangnam lost sight in his right eye, JTBC reported on the 20th.

Issues arose immediately post-surgery. His right eye swelled severely. The doctor performed a reoperation to clean the pooled blood in the eye. Despite this, Mr. Kim was discharged, but his condition worsened. As night fell, he became completely blind in his right eye.

When Mr. Kim reported he couldn’t see from his right eye, the hospital responded, saying it’s a common symptom post-surgery. Their official records stated:

“After returning home on the day of the surgery, he realized around 10 p.m. that he could not see anything with his right eye. The next morning, he contacted the hospital through an emergency call, only to be informed that the temporary vision loss might be due to swelling post-surgery. He was advised to return the next day to check for symptom improvement. Due to anxiety, he visited the hospital early. Swelling, bruises, and wounds seemed fine.”

However, this was not a typical symptom. Even after a day, the blindness persisted. Mr. Kim went to the hospital to explain his condition, and the doctor advised him to seek treatment at a nearby university hospital.

The diagnosis at the university hospital was shocking. They reported irreversible optic nerve damage with no way to restore vision.

Devastated, Mr. Kim developed severe depression, affecting his day-to-day life.

Despite this, the hospital refused compensation. For four months, they expressed regret, agreeing to take responsibility only on a moral level. Unable to accept this, Mr. Kim filed civil and criminal lawsuits against the cosmetic surgery clinic that day.

Upon starting their investigation, JTBC reported that the hospital stated they would sincerely follow the court’s decision regarding the scope of compensation.
