According to the legal community, on the 2nd, Judge Choi Gi-won of the Seoul Northern District Court sentenced Mr. Lee (38), who was indicted for stealing a total of 7 million won (approximately $6,000) worth of goods from two ‘Baedal Minjok B-mart’ branches, to 10 months in prison. The judge also ordered him to compensate for the damages fully.

Mr. Lee, from February 2018 to April this year, worked at a B-Mart in Jungnang-gu, Seoul, and learned that other employees leave the entrance security card in the switchboard so deliverymen can enter during dawn hours.

After resigning, he stole goods worth 7.03 million won (approximately $6,000) twice in June this year. Precisely, on June 11th and 27th, between 1 and 2 a.m., he took out the security card from the switchboard at two B-Mart branches, entered the store, and stole game consoles and Bluetooth speakers.

The court stated the reason for the sentence, saying, “The nature of the crime is bad, and the case is not light considering the scale of the damage.”

It also explained that it took into account the fact that the damage had not been compensated for, the victimized company had not forgiven the offender, and there was a criminal record due to multiple thefts.
