Cristiano Ronaldo (Al Nassr) still holds a grudge against Lionel Messi (Inter Miami). Instead of congratulating Messi on his 8th Ballon d’Or win, Ronaldo mocked it.

On December 31, French media outlet France Football announced the winner of the 2023 Ballon d’Or. This time, Messi, who led the 2022 Qatar World Cup victory, took home his 8th Ballon d’Or.

In response, British media outlet Express reported, “Ronaldo does not agree with Messi beating Erling Haaland (Manchester City) to win his 8th Ballon d’Or.”

The media outlet explained, “Journalist Tomato Roncero claimed on the Spanish media AS’s social media account that Messi should have only won the Ballon d’Or five times like Ronaldo,” and “Ronaldo expressed his dissatisfaction with Messi’s Ballon d’Or win by leaving a laughing emoji on this video.”

Messi won his first Ballon d’Or in 2009 and continued to win for four consecutive years until 2012. He also won in 2015, 2019, 2021, and 2023, totaling eight wins. He holds the record for the most wins ever.

Ronaldo, who has won five times, is in second place. Until 2017, Ronaldo and Messi each had five wins, tying for first place, but since then, the gap has widened.

However, not only Ronaldo but many others are unhappy with Messi’s Ballon d’Or wins. In the past, Messi won the Ballon d’Or in several seasons when Andrés Iniesta, Xavi, and Robert Lewandowski were strong candidates.

This season, despite Haaland scoring 52 goals and significantly outperforming Messi regarding records, he finished second due to the voting system.
