The stabbing incident involving a South Korean man in his 50s took place in Angeles, a popular tourist spot in the Philippines.

On the 13th, Yonhap News reported the incident based on the information confirmed by the Korean Embassy in the Philippines.

According to the report, around 2 am on the 11th, two robbers stabbed a 56-year-old Korean man, identified as A, in the abdomen and stole his wallet in downtown Angeles, Philippines.

Local Philippine police have launched an investigation in cooperation with the Korean Desk dispatched by the Korean Embassy in the Philippines. However, the culprits have not been caught yet.

Mr. A, who was stabbed, was seriously injured and was taken to the hospital. After undergoing suturing surgery, he is currently receiving treatment.

An official from the Korean Embassy in the Philippines told Yonhap News, “The surgery went well, and there is no threat to the victim’s life. We are working closely with local police to catch the culprits.”

Violent crimes targeting Koreans occur frequently in the Philippines.

Since 2012, there have been a total of 57 murder cases involving Koreans in the Philippines, with 63 deaths, according to Yonhap News.

Due to the recurring violent crimes targeting Koreans, the Korean Embassy in the Philippines has issued an emergency safety notice.

The embassy advised Koreans to avoid going out at night as much as possible and to avoid deserted places if unavoidable. They should move along main roads and not resist armed robbers or strangers. This is due to cases where people have been shot while trying to prevent their bags from being snatched.

They also advised maintaining good relations with locals and being cautious not to cause severe disputes or hold grudges over money issues.
