Klinsmann targets Singaporean player
Son Heung-min suffers injury

Jürgen Klinsmann, the manager of the South Korean national team, criticized a Singapore national team player for his rough tackle on Son Heung-min (Tottenham).

The South Korean team, led by Son Heung-min, kicked off the first match of the 2026 World Cup (jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States) Asian second round Group C against Singapore at the Seoul World Cup Stadium on the 16th. The team recorded a third goal, leading to a 5-0 victory.

Son Heung-min started the match and played full-time, scoring a goal and continuing his performance from his club to the national team. He also scored in two consecutive A-matches following the previous match against Vietnam.

Injury Scare for Son

Son Heung-min sat on the ground after a Singapore national team player gave him a rough tackle in the second half.

Son Heung-min fell on the ground for longer than usual, expressing severe pain in the area where he was tackled. Medical staff were then called in to check on Son Heung-min’s condition. Fortunately, Son Heung-min managed to get up.

After the match, Klinsmann said, “A foul came out from a Singapore player that didn’t have to happen, especially when they were losing by a wide margin. I was furious at the moment. It was a play that should never have happened.”

Son Heung-min will play in the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against China at the Shenzhen Universiade Sports Center in China at 9 p.m. on the 21st. There are concerns about injuries in the match against the Chinese national team.

Son Heung-min’s Versatility and Skills

Meanwhile, Son Heung-min’s main position is left winger. Son prefers to move to the center to coordinate or take shots directly. Also, depending on the situation, he can play on the right or as a central forward or second striker. He can carry the ball and shoot from any position, especially using his fast pace.

Moreover, he has the advantage of speed and acceleration to infiltrate the defensive backspace and powerful and precise shooting with both feet. He is capable of breaking the offside line and scoring. If there is enough space in the penalty box, he can move to a suitable position to receive a pass and shoot, even in aerial situations. He also has a precise long-range shot with both feet.

Manager Klinsmann talked to Son Heung-min, who complained of ankle pain, during the match between South Korea and Singapore in the 2026 FIFA North Central America World Cup Asian region second round Group C at the Seoul World Cup Stadium in Mapo-gu, Seoul, on the 16th. / News1
