Yonhap News

San Diego Padres infielder Ha Seong Kim is experiencing a setback in his recovery from a right shoulder injury. MLB.com reports that Padres manager Mike Shildt has indicated it’s uncertain whether Kim will be back in time for the team’s upcoming home series, which concludes on September 9. This uncertainty suggests that Kim’s recovery is not yet complete.

The Padres kick off a series against the Detroit Tigers today, with games running through September 6. They will then face the San Francisco Giants from September 7 to 9. Kim was initially expected to return for the start of this series, but his rehabilitation is still ongoing.

MLB.com described Kim’s injury as not too severe, predicting a return in early September. On Friday, Kim returned to San Diego after undergoing live batting training at the spring camp facility in Arizona. Although he can swing a bat and throw the ball, he cannot throw well enough to cover the infield fully.

Kim injured his right shoulder while diving back to first base after hitting a single during the top of the third inning against the Colorado Rockies on August 19. Following a diagnosis of inflammation, he was placed on the 10-day injured list for the first time since entering the big leagues. Both fans and the team hope for Kim’s swift recovery, as his return is expected to play a crucial role in San Diego’s season.
