Eco-Friendly Innovation: Volvo’s EX30 SUV Manufactured Using 100% Climate-Neutral Energy

globalautonews Views

Volvo

Volvo’s compact electric SUV EX30 is smaller, resulting in lower CO2 emissions during manufacturing. In addition, it has designed the supply chain of design, materials, and manufacturing to reduce CO2 emissions per unit compared to C40 and XC40. It mainly uses recycled materials, with aluminum accounting for 25% of the total usage, steel for 17%, and plastic for 17% being recycled materials. Sustainable materials were used throughout the interior, including recycled plastic, wool blend materials containing approximately 70% recycled plastic, 3D knit sheet materials including recycled plastic, and Nordico seats made from recycled and bio-based materials.

For example, just like scraps are generated when cutting a suit, the same happens with vehicles, and it is wasteful to cut molds with steel. Volvo explains that reducing this waste is important and will ultimately reduce the overall environmental impact.

The production facility operates on climate-neutral energy, completely eliminating CO2 emissions. The EX30 is produced with 100% climate-neutral energy. Volvo emphasizes that the EX30 is an important milestone in achieving its sustainability goals and will serve as a benchmark for new electric vehicles.

Volvo has set a goal of 100% electric vehicles by 2030 and climate neutrality by 2040.
