Sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in California, USA, increased by 20.5% in the first quarter, 21.8% in the second quarter, and 22.3% in the third quarter. In the third quarter, the total number of new EV registrations in California was 105,970, a decrease from 103,061 in the second quarter. However, the market share increased as overall car sales decreased more significantly. Compared to the third quarter of 2022, total new car sales decreased by 21.1%, while BEV sales increased by 56.3%, reflecting seasonal factors in car sales.
Nationwide, the market share of BEVs is 7%, while it is 22% in California.
A noteworthy point is that Toyota sold 73,140 units, surpassing Tesla, which sold 60,610 units. Although BEVs are not comparable, this is the case when considering total sales volume.
