Xiaomi Unveils Its First Electric Car: Check Out the Stunning Photos

globalautonews Views

The first images of the SU7 EV from Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi have been revealed, with various specifications such as the car’s size, weight, and power output being reported. Chinese automotive news outlet CarNewsChina said that Xiaomi is not actually manufacturing the car; instead, it will be produced by Beijing Automotive Industry Holding (BAIC).

The SU7, a fastback sedan with a wheelbase of 2,997mm (approximately 118 inches), offers a single-motor RWD variant with a maximum power of 295 horsepower. At the same time, the premium AWD dual-motor version can generate up to 663 horsepower.

Both models will feature an LFP battery in their base models, while the premium trims will be equipped with NMC battery cells. There were previous mentions of an 800V architecture and a 100kWh battery, likely referring to the high-end models.

Some trims of the SU7 will come equipped with a LiDAR array on the vehicle’s roof, expected to provide ADAS functions.

Specific trims available at launch will be the SU7, SU7 Pro, and SU7 Max, making the car sound more like a smartphone than a luxury sedan.

Considering that Xiaomi is a Chinese brand with a product and service ecosystem primarily targeting Chinese customers, it remains unclear whether Xiaomi plans to sell the SU7 outside its home country.

Xiaomi plans to start production by the end of 2023 and launch in early 2024.

Given Xiaomi’s lack of brand recognition in the United States, it seems highly unlikely that the SU7 will be released in the U.S. market.
