Shaky Skies: Boeing’s Recent String of Aircraft Malfunctions Raises Concerns

inews24 Views

The world’s largest aircraft manufacturer, the American Boeing Company, has recently been plagued by a series of aircraft malfunctions. Controversy arose when an employee from a supplier claimed that they found “200 defects in airplane parts.”

According to CNN on the 8th (local time), a Boeing 767 cargo plane belonging to the FedEx Express made an emergency landing at Istanbul International Airport in Turkey as its front wheels did not deploy.

When the landing gear failed to open, the plane landed on the runway without front wheels, causing sparks and smoke as the front part of the fuselage swept onto the runway. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

Boeing’s aircraft have recently been involved in a series of accidents.

On the 26th of last month, a Boeing 767 flight belonging to Delta Air Lines in the United States returned shortly after taking off from New York’s JFK Airport when an emergency escape slide fell.

On January 5th, Alaska Airlines’ Boeing 737 Max 9, which took off from Portland Airport in the United States, had a hole in the fuselage, causing a window to break and tearing part of the fuselage during flight.

Amid these incidents, an employee who worked on the inspection team of Boeing’s largest supplier filed an internal complaint, claiming that “the company (supplier) delivers products to Boeing while hiding defects.”

Santiago Paredes, who worked at Spirit AeroSystems from 2010 to 2022, said in an interview with the BBC that “up to 200 defects were often found in the aircraft body parts to be delivered to Boeing.”

He said, “I met many people at the company who are afraid to fly. That’s because they have seen how the fuselage is made.”
