Former President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, sparked controversy on the 18th (local time) by suddenly falling silent during a speech. The camp of President Joe Biden, who has been under attack for his “age-related risks,” seized the moment to escalate criticism, claiming that Trump is unfit for the presidency.
On the 18th, Trump gave a 90-minute speech at the annual National Rifle Association (NRA) meeting in Texas. About 80 minutes into the speech while encouraging people to vote, he suddenly stopped speaking. After staring straight ahead and shaking his head from side to side, he remained silent for about 30 seconds before continuing with, “Our country is in decline.”
The next day, Biden’s supporters group, Biden’s Wins, posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Trump froze during his campaign speech,” and, “He is unfit for the presidency. Please retweet this so Americans can know that Trump is senile.”
According to the British daily The Independent, Trump’s supporters suggested that he might have been flustered by a malfunctioning teleprompter with his speech script or distracted by noises from the audience or background.
