On the 19th (local time), U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, to discuss strengthening cooperation in various areas, including a broad security agreement between the two countries.

The Saudi state-run SPA news agency reported that during the meeting, Sullivan and Crown Prince bin Salman discussed the final steps of the draft of a strategic treaty between the two countries.

Additionally, they discussed the need for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the necessity for humanitarian aid.

Previously, the White House announced that Sullivan planned to visit Saudi Arabia and Israel.

In particular, Sullivan plans to meet with government officials, including Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, to discuss the Gaza Strip war and hostage release.

The U.S. has been working on establishing diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel as part of its Middle East stabilization policy.

In response, Saudi Arabia has requested a mutual defense treaty with the U.S. at the level of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and permission for uranium enrichment for civilian nuclear development.

The U.S. and Saudi Arabia have been making progress in discussing these issues until talks were halted due to an attack on Israel by the Palestinian armed group Hamas in October last year.
