Controversy is brewing after it was revealed that Hunter Biden, the second son of President Joe Biden, attended a meeting with senior White House staff.
According to reports by NBC News on Tuesday, Hunter Biden returned to the White House with President Biden after a family meeting at Camp David over the weekend and attended a meeting with his close aides.
Anonymous sources reported that Hunter Biden attended meetings with senior aides alongside President Biden and provided close counsel to the president, participating in various meetings, including phone conferences.
One source reported that some White House staff were confused when the president appeared at the meeting with his son. While Hunter Biden often attended the White House events, his attendance at a meeting with senior aides is highly unusual.
Moreover, Hunter Biden was found guilty of illegal possession of firearms in a Delaware court last month. He is currently being prosecuted for tax-related crimes. Some critics argue that the president putting his son forward this way is causing him more harm than good.
Hunter Biden is known to have firmly persuaded President Biden to complete the presidential race.
However, the White House maintains that Hunter Biden’s attendance at the White House meetings is not a problem.
“(Hunter Biden) returned with the president after spending the weekend with his family at Camp David and started preparing for a speech,” Andrew Bates, a White House spokesperson, told NBC.
Karine Jean-Pierre, a White House Press Secretary, also stated at a press conference that day, “The president is very close with his family. July 4th is a holiday. As everyone knows, (President Biden spent) time with his family at Camp David.
“Hunter returned with him, and they prepared for the meeting and speech together.”
