According to local media, the fire started around 6 p.m. in a rental car parking lot near Humberto Delgado International Airport in Lisbon, destroying over 200 vehicles.

Authorities believe a Tesla caused the fire. Portuguese television network SIC reported that the fire began in an EV parked on the top level and spread to other cars.

Firefighters extinguished the flames around 11 p.m., five hours after the fire began. Over 140 firefighters tried to tackle the blaze, but it was complicated by gasoline and wind.

Thick smoke billowed over the fire scene, causing delays for several flights and disrupting airport operations.

Fortunately, the fire happened in an industrial area, preventing casualties. No injuries were reported.

Portuguese authorities stated, “The fire only occurred on the second level of the parking lot. Some vehicles that did not catch fire may have sustained damage from the heat.”
