U.S. Navy Prepares for Possible War with China by 2027

On Wednesday, the U.S. Navy unveiled its “Navigation Plan 2024,” which explicitly prepares for a potential conflict with China by 2027.

According to the South China Morning Post, Admiral Lisa Franchetti, the Chief of Naval Operations, emphasized the timeline: “I’m very focused on 2027. It’s the year that President Xi [Jinping] told his forces to be ready to invade Taiwan.” She added, “We need to be more ready.”

The plan outlines strategic objectives to enhance the Navy’s preparedness while ensuring long-term dominance. It emphasizes seven key priorities, including eliminating delays in ship maintenance, improving naval infrastructure, and expanding the use of drones and autonomous systems. The Navy aims to bolster its capabilities by increasing the deployment of unmanned aerial vehicles.

As 2027 approaches, concerns are mounting among U.S. officials regarding the risks associated with Taiwan. This year marks the end of President Xi Jinping’s term as General Secretary of the Communist Party, heightening scrutiny of China’s military intentions.

In April, Adm.John Aquilino, former Indo-Pacific Command Commander, suggested that China aims to be capable of invading Taiwan by 2027. U.S. intelligence agencies also reported last year that the Chinese military is working to establish a military posture that could deter U.S. intervention in the event of a Taiwan conflict by 2027.
