Meta announced a $1 million contribution to Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration fund, seemingly to improve relations with the former president.
The announcement on Thursday comes just weeks after Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg held a private meeting with Trump at Mar-a-Lago. Stephen Miller, appointed as Trump’s acting chief of staff, noted that Zuckerberg, like other business leaders, is eager to support Trump’s economic agenda.
Following a previously strained relationship with Trump, Zuckerberg appears to be working to reshape Meta’s image among conservatives.
While Zuckerberg did not endorse any presidential candidates during the 2024 election cycle, he has shown a more favorable attitude toward Trump. Earlier this year, Zuckerberg even praised Trump’s handling of the first assassination attempt.
Despite previous interactions, Trump has been openly critical of Zuckerberg. In July, he issued a direct warning on his social media platform, telling Zuckerberg to watch out.
Trump’s Facebook account was reinstated early last year after being suspended following the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Historically, corporations have contributed significantly to presidential inauguration funds, except in 2009, when then-President-elect Barack Obama declined corporate donations. Facebook did not contribute to Biden’s 2021 or Trump’s 2017 inauguration.
