He’s injured again. Neymar of the Brazilian national football team (Al-Hilal), is set to undergo surgery.

Neymar started in the South American qualifier match for the 2026 CONCACAF World Cup against Uruguay in Montevideo on the 18th. However, he was injured towards the end of the first half.

Neymar fell to the ground during a ball contest with Uruguay’s Nicolás De La Cruz. He lost balance while stepping forward.

He expressed pain, and the trainer came out to check his condition. Neymar was carried out on a stretcher. Brazil lost 0-2 to Uruguay that day.

Following the defeat to Uruguay, more bad news was delivered. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) revealed the extent of Neymar’s injury on the 19th. The CBF announced that “the examination results showed that Neymar’s left knee anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus were ruptured.”

Neymar is set to undergo surgery. The CBF added that “the surgery date has not been decided yet.” Neymar’s club, Al-Hilal (Saudi Arabia), also shared the news of Neymar’s injury and upcoming surgery on the same day.

This is not the first time Neymar has been injured. He was unable to play on the field for three months each in 2018 and 2019 due to injuries to his right foot, and he was also injured in his right ankle during the first group stage match of the Qatar World Cup last year (2022). As a result, he missed the second and third group stage matches and returned through the round of 16 matches against South Korea.

In March of this year, when he was with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), he underwent ankle surgery. Meanwhile, Brazil fell to third place in the South American qualifiers after being caught by Uruguay. With Neymar’s long-term absence inevitable, two qualifying matches against Colombia and Argentina are scheduled for November.
