Israel has decided to temporarily halt combat in the northern region of the Gaza Strip for four hours each day to allow Palestinian civilians to evacuate.

According to foreign media outlets such as the BBC on the 9th (local time), John Kirby, the U.S. White House National Security Council (NSC) Strategic Communications Coordinator, said in a briefing, “We have been told by Israel that there will be no military operations in the northern Gaza Strip during this time.”

The temporary ceasefire will start from today, and Israel plans to announce the halt of combat three hours in advance.

They also announced that they would open a coastal road in addition to the existing humanitarian corridor. Kirby explained, “The second corridor, a coastal road, will also be opened to allow thousands of people to reach the south.”

However, he was skeptical about the possibility of a ceasefire.

Kirby emphasized, “We believe this temporary halt in fighting is a step in the right direction. However, a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian armed force Hamas would only benefit Hamas, so we do not support it.”
