Kim Jong Un participated in the People’s Assembly deputy elections of provinces (cities), cities (districts), and counties on the previous day (26th). The Rodong Sinmun reported on the 27th that the voter turnout was nearly 100%.

According to the newspaper, Kim visited the Hamgyongnam-do No.55 constituency No.26 polling station (voting station). He voted for Kim Chung-hyuk, the manager of the Ryongsong Machine Complex’s Sun-gun Ironworks, who is a candidate for the People’s Assembly of Hamnam; Ri Chul-hak, the manager of the 3rd Machine Workshop of the Ryongsong Machine Complex, who is a candidate for the People’s Assembly of Hamhung City; and Rim Chul, the deputy director of the Coastal Area Statistics Department, who is a candidate for the People’s Assembly of the Coastal Area of Hamhung City.

Afterward, Kim met with the deputy candidates and encouraged them, emphasizing the importance of their awareness of the trust placed in them by the working class and the people of Hamhung City. He urged them to actively contribute to the construction of a prosperous country with high patriotic enthusiasm and creative efforts, as well as to advocate for and work towards fulfilling the rights and demands of the people. Kim encouraged them to strive to become genuine representatives of the people and dedicated public servants.

The voter turnout for this election in North Korea was reported by North Korean authorities to be 99.64%. This is slightly less than the 99.98% in the 2019 election.

The Unification Ministry spokesman, Gu Byung-sam, stated during a regular briefing on the day that Kim’s participation in the vote and the announcement of the voting rate were seen as promoting people-centered socialism. However, he also noted that when examining the voting method, which involved placing yes or no votes into differently colored ballot boxes, it appeared to deviate from a democratic election system. Instead, it seemed to bolster the internal control of the regime.

On the day, Prime Minister Kim Deok-hoon, Party Secretaries Ri Il-hwan and Oh Su-yong, and Party Vice-Chairpersons Kim Yo-jong and Hyon Dong-chol accompanied Chairman Kim to the voting site at the Ryongsong Machine Complex.
