[TV REPORT=Kim Hyun-jae] We may never get to see Disney’s ‘Aladdin 2’.

On the 18th (local time), the American media outlet ‘Movie Web’ revealed an interview with Mena Massoud, who played the role of ‘Aladdin’ in the film.

He carefully shared his thoughts about the rumored ‘Aladdin 2’ sequel.

The 2019 live-action adaptation of the animated film ‘Aladdin’ garnered much love, earning over $1 billion (approximately 1.3 trillion KRW) worldwide. This sparked ongoing discussions about the possibility of a sequel.

However, there has been a surge of rumors that the production of ‘Aladdin 2’ has been canceled, leaving many fans disappointed.

In response to questions about the progress of the sequel, Massoud answered candidly. “There are no updates yet. Everything has been put on hold due to the strike,” he revealed, painting a bleak picture of the current situation. He added, “They (the producers) have been trying to start it (the production of the sequel) for a long time, but I have no idea how it’s going now.”

Massoud also showed a glimmer of hope for the production, saying, “At some point, it will continue, right?”

It remains to be seen whether we will get to see ‘Aladdin 2’ on the big screen.

Meanwhile, ‘Aladdin 2’ had raised the expectations of many fans when the production was confirmed in 2020. Unlike the original animated sequel ‘The Return of Jafar’, this film was announced to feature a completely new story.
