The bold move of world-ranked number one male golfer Scottie Scheffler (28, USA) to change his putter paid off. Picking up a mallet putter, Scheffler tasted victory on the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) Tour for the first time in about a year.

On March 10th, at the Bay Hill Golf and Lodge (par 72) in Orlando, Florida, Scheffler finished the fourth round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational PGA Tour (total prize of $20 million) without a bogey, making six birdies and reducing his score by six strokes (6-under-par 66).

Scheffler ultimately dominated with a score of 15-under-par 273, beating second-place Wyndham Clark (USA) by five strokes (10-under-par 278). Shane Lowry (Ireland) took third place with a score of 9-under-par 279.

This win for Scheffler comes about a year after last year’s Players Championship. This is his seventh win on the PGA Tour overall. He achieved his second victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational after his win in 2022. With his prize money of $4 million, Scheffler solidified his number-one ranking in the FedEx Cup and world ranking.

Scheffler’s overwhelming victory that day is related to his putter change. Recently, Scheffler experienced frustration at the threshold of victory due to having difficulties in putting. Although he made it into the top 10 in all five tournaments he participated in this year. He failed to win because his putting didn’t go as planned at crucial moments.

Scheffler decided to change his putter ahead of this tournament. He ditched his blade putter for a mallet putter with good straight-line performance, which paid off. Scheffler averaged 27 putts (ranked 6th) and 1.58 putts per hole when hitting the green (ranked 1st) in this tournament with his mallet putter.
