No Exercise, No Problem: GM Diet Plan That’s Taking the U.S. by Storm

daily Views

The GM Diet is making headlines as a diet plan that can reduce weight through dietary adjustments alone, without exercise. This diet is particularly noted for its ability to rapidly decrease weight over a week, with some days allowing unrestricted eating of certain foods. Many are now curious about the GM Diet and how it should be executed. Let’s delve into the various stories surrounding the GM Diet.

The GM in GM Diet

The GM in the GM Diet stands for the well-known General Motors. Initiated in the 1980s, the GM Diet was developed with the help of the FDA and the US Department of Agriculture and reportedly involved the Johns Hopkins Research Center. The GM-created diet is centered around a diet of fruits and vegetables with minimal protein.

Diet Program

The GM Diet is indeed a program designed for dieting. It is known for enabling an average weight loss of around 6.8 kg and is distinguished by not requiring exercise. As will be discussed, the diet allows for unlimited consumption of specific foods on designated days, which can also be a significant benefit. This is why the GM Diet is also known as the satiating diet.

A one-week short-term program

The time required for the GM Diet is not long—it’s just one week. This short-term diet plan involves following a set menu for a week, which is believed to aid in weight loss and transform the body into one that efficiently burns body fat. It’s also said it helps remove toxins from the body. Of course, strictly adhering to the step-by-step daily diet plan is crucial.

7-Day Diet Plan

Day 1 involves eating all fruits except bananas. Day 2 allows for a small amount of potatoes in the morning, with only vegetables for the other meals. Day 3 permits fruits and vegetables, excluding bananas and potatoes. Day 4 consists of eating eight bananas and drinking three glasses of low-fat milk. On Day 5, consume 300g of chicken breast or lean beef and six tomatoes. Day 6 replaces tomatoes with vegetables, and the final day, Day 7, allows a bowl of brown rice, vegetables, and fresh fruit juice.

How much should You eat?

Unless specified, all foods can be consumed unlimitedly with the GM Diet. The first day is unlimited fruits, the second day is green vegetables, and the third day is unlimited fruits and vegetables, excluding bananas and potatoes. Avoid syrups, sugary sauces, and dressings when eating vegetables. Beverages should not contain added sugars, though drinks like black coffee and plain tea are permissible.

Daily Requirements

The diet mainly involves meals that are unlikely to exceed 1000 calories daily. Bananas and milk have specific days for consumption, and drinking plenty of water is recommended. The diet does not mandate other specifics, such as exercise, although incorporating physical activity can enhance results.

Nutritionally Balanced

The GM Diet minimizes calorie intake while aiming to burn body fat, representing a nutritionally balanced approach. Adhering to the diet and consuming plenty of vegetables should mitigate the risk of nutritional imbalances. However, rapid water loss can occur, so drinking ample water is crucial to prevent dehydration.

What to avoid

When preparing chicken or beef, avoid frying with oil. Many may want to enhance the flavor of vegetables by frying or adding dressings, but these practices are best avoided. Instead, cook meat through grilling or steaming without oil and avoid salty seasonings or salad dressings.

Potential Downsides

Even with nutritional balance, this low-calorie diet can reduce energy levels, hunger pangs, mild headaches, and potentially rebound weight gain after the diet ends. During the weight reduction process, muscle mass could also be lost.

Who is the program for?

The GM Diet is designed for healthy working adults in a corporate environment. It is not recommended for those in abnormal health states, such as pregnant women, nursing mothers, or individuals with heart or gastrointestinal diseases. Alternatives to dietary weight loss should be considered for these groups. Additionally, it is not advisable to continue the GM Diet consecutively without breaks; if repeating, it is recommended to take at least a 10-day rest in between sessions.
