Choo Kyung Ho, the floor leader of the People Power Party, is giving a speech at the floor leaders’ meeting held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, on the morning of the 17th.
In response to Woo Won Shik, a member of the Democratic Party, being elected as the candidate for the Speaker of the 22nd National Assembly, the People Power Party urged him to play a role in bipartisan cooperation on the 17th.
Choo Kyung Ho, the floor leader of the People Power Party, presided over the floor leaders’ meeting at the National Assembly that morning and said, “The National Assembly’s top priority right now is to solve pressing public livelihood issues. People’s livelihoods are more important than partisan interests,” and conveyed this message to Representative Woo.
Regarding Representative Woo, Floor Leader Choo said, “He is a senior legislator whom I respect and admire. We’ve worked in standing committees and pondered national affairs since he was deputy prime minister for economy and chairman of the special committee on budget and accounts.”
He continued, “I remember him leading the formation of a bipartisan consultation body for cooperation when he was the floor leader of the Democratic Party in 2017. His efforts to compromise at every major crisis are still vivid. He is a witness to the National Assembly, having experienced extreme confrontations between the ruling and opposition parties, including a hunger strike by his negotiation partner from the opposition party.”
In addition to these remarks, Floor Leader Choo said, “There should be no disagreement that the National Assembly is the servant of the people and should serve with an attitude of infinite responsibility towards the people. The atmosphere of dialogue in the National Assembly is important. I feel resonance and great expectations from Representative Woo’s words that he will respect negotiations and consultations between the ruling and opposition parties.”
He emphasized, “I hope that he will play a bridging role so that bipartisan cooperation can be achieved through dialogue and compromise, rather than conflict and struggle between the ruling and opposition parties in the National Assembly.”
Secretary General Sung Il Jong said about Representative Woo’s election as the Speaker candidate, defeating candidate Choo Mi Ae, “A stern warning has been issued to Representative Lee Jae Myung, who tried to control even the Speaker of the National Assembly with his popularity (Lee Jae Myung’s thoughts) and the power of reform. “
He pointed out, “It seems that the derailment has begun in his plan to pave the fast lane to the presidency through legislative overreach, wearing his bulletproof armor under the guise of promoting people and promoting Representative Lee’s second inauguration. Great misfortune will inevitably befall South Korea if dictatorship occurs within the party.”
