Never Lose Your Luggage Again: Must-Know Tips for Every Traveler

Daniel Kim Views

Expert advice on potential luggage delays and losses during travel draws the focus.

CNN Travel introduced ways to minimize luggage delays and losses based on the interview with Scott Keyes, a founder of an air ticket trading and travel-related site.

The report says if you’re worried about lost luggage, it’s best to use direct flights. Scott said, “Bags are most likely to get lost in that transfer between planes at connection, especially if there’s a tight connection.” He added that airlines with large discounts often have many stopovers, increasing the likelihood of lost luggage. He recommends opting for a flight with sufficient layover time if you can’t get a direct flight.

He also advised taking pictures of your luggage and its contents before checking in at the airport. If your luggage is delayed or lost, the first requested information from the airline will be the brand and size of your bag, among other physical descriptions. Pictures of the items inside your luggage make it easier to receive compensation if your luggage is lost. You must check in on time once you’ve checked your luggage contents. He warned that luggage checked in close to the deadline might be delayed or lost.

If you can’t find your luggage upon arrival at your destination, you should check areas near the designated pickup spot. If you still can’t find your luggage after checking, you must fill out a lost luggage form at the airport’s luggage office. If your luggage is delayed, the airport will deliver it to the address you provided on the form. However, if your luggage is completely lost, the airline takes responsibility. Since compensation policies vary by airline, contacting the airline directly or looking up related information on their website is recommended.
