‘Bad Breath Rapist’ Captured After 17 Years, Bizarre Clue Leads to Arrest:

Daniel Kim Views

A notorious American rapist, known for his terrible breath, has been captured after 17 years on the run.

On May 29th, The New York Times reported that California authorities had arrested 55-year-old Tuen Kit Lee, who fled midway through his 2007 trial for sexual assault.

Lee was accused of kidnapping and raping a young waitress at knifepoint in Boston, Massachusetts in February 2005. Despite wearing a mask during the attack, his distinctive horrible breath led to his identification. DNA evidence later confirmed his identity. This led to the media dubbing him the “Bad Breath Rapist.”

Lee was initially held in custody but fled without a trace after being released on bail before the trial concluded.

After an extensive operation, police tracked Lee to San Francisco Bay, where he lived with a woman. When first approached by authorities, Lee provided an alias but eventually confessed after being questioned. Fingerprint analysis confirmed his identity.

Lee’s long-term partner, who had been with Lee for over a decade, initially defended him, insisting, “It can’t be him. He’s a good man.” However, she reportedly broke down after seeing Lee’s wanted poster.

Lee is currently held at the East Bay Detention Center until he is extradited to Massachusetts for sentencing on his past crimes.
