A 15-year-old boy debuts on the U.S. Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) Tour, aiming to be the youngest to make the cut.

The boy’s name is Miles Russell. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, he will make his PGA Tour debut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic at the Detroit Golf Club (par 72) in Detroit, Michigan, on June 27.

He is competing in the sponsor’s exemption category.

Russell finished in a tie for 20th at the Korn Ferry Tour’s LECOM Suncoast Classic on April 21.

He set records for being the youngest to compete, the youngest to make the cut, and the youngest to land in the top 25 (since 1983).

“He has proved with his many accomplishments at such a young age that he belongs, and we are excited to see Miles compete alongside the world’s best golfers here at Detroit Golf Club,” Rocket Mortgage Classic Executive Director Jason Langwell said.

Russell is the American Junior Golf Association’s (AJGA) Player of the Year. He became a teenager and debuted on the PGA Tour with Kris Kim and Blades Brown.

On May 3, Kim made the cut at the Byron Nelson’s The CJ Cup, setting a record at 16 years, 7 months, and 10 days old. This brought forward the record set by Jordan Spieth in 2010 (16 years, 10 months) by about two months.

If Russell makes the cut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, this record will be renewed again, this time by about a year.

Russell said, “I am thankful to Rocket Mortgage for giving me the opportunity to make my PGA TOUR debut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Ever since I first started playing golf, my dream has been to compete on the PGA TOUR and test my game against the best players, and I’m looking forward to making the most of the experience later this month.”
