Trump’s Right-Hand Man Bannon: Pledges Political Revenge and Government Purge

Daniel Kim Views

“Are we at war? Is this a political war to the knife?”

Steve Bannon, former White House chief strategist and advisor to former President Donald Trump, spoke these words, providing far-right policy ideas and election strategies. Bannon made these remarks at a conservative group Turning Point Action event held in Detroit, Michigan, on the 15th of this month.

CNN reported on the 18th that Bannon appeared to be pushing the November election into a do-or-die war, promising to restructure the government and ultimately dismantle the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) while using war-like terminology at this event.

Bannon rallied Republican supporters at the event, calling the upcoming election day a D-Day invasion and urging them to see themselves as filling the shoes of fallen soldiers. Toward the end of his speech, he raised his voice, asking Turning Point activists, “Are you prepared to leave it all on the battlefield in 2024? “It’s very simple: victory or death!” he answered.

CNN pointed out, “The use of such violent imagery is important when considering it came from Bannon, a Trump true-believer who worked for a time in Trump’s White House and has continued to try to influence Trump ever since.”

Bannon was pardoned on the last day of Trump’s term in 2021 after being indicted for allegedly diverting donations related to Trump’s flagship promise to build a U.S.-Mexico wall. However, he was sentenced to four months for contempt of Congress after refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena, separate from the abovementioned case. He will start serving his sentence on July 1. CNN noted that this election is undoubtedly very important from Bannon’s perspective.

Meanwhile, Bannon hints at political retaliation if Trump returns to power. He said, “We are going to purge DOJ. We are going to take apart the FBI. The FBI, the American Gestapo … there’s not going to be an FBI.” “We are going to get every single receipt, and to the fullest extent of the law, you are going to be investigated, prosecuted, and incarcerated,” he added.
