North Korean Troops to Ukraine? U.S. Defense Sounds Alarm

Daniel Kim Views

North Korea may deploy troops to Ukraine after signing a military pact with Russia. In response, the United States warned, “North Korean soldiers will become cannon fodder (for Russia).”

According to a press release by the U.S. Department of Defense on the 25th, spokesperson Pat Ryder confirmed that the issue of Russia deploying North Korean troops to Ukraine is “certainly something to keep an eye on. ” He further warned North Korea that casualties would be inevitable as the soldiers would be used as “cannon fodder.”

On the 19th, North Korea and Russia signed a “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” military pact. The North Korea-Russia military alliance has strengthened, and the world’s attention has been focused on the possibility of North Korean troop deployment. In the meantime, there was also a question about the deployment of nuclear weapons in South Korea.

In response to questions on nuclear arming in South Korea, Ryder drew a line, stating, “Our policy hasn’t changed as it relates to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.” However, he added, “We’ll continue to work closely with ROK and Japanese allies and others in the region to ensure security and stability throughout the Indo-Pacific.”
