Neuralink to Enhance Human Intelligence: The Next Step in AI Integration

Neuralink, a neuroscience startup led by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, plans to implant a chip into the human brain for the second time in about a week.

Musk will stream live on X on the 10th, as reported by CNBC. He also expressed his hope to apply this technology to a sample of patients by the end of the year, revealing his intent to speed up the development. This May, Musk recruited a second candidate for brain chip implantation.

Neuralink is developing a brain-computer interface (BCI) device technology. It enables patients with spinal cord damage to control devices simply by thinking. During the live, Musk engaged in extensive discussions with key Neuralink employees. He stated that the long-term goal is to minimize the risks artificial intelligence (AI) may pose to civilization. Furthermore, Neuralink believes fostering a symbiotic relationship between humans and digital intelligence can resolve the issue, claiming it would eventually provide humans with superhuman abilities.

Musk and Neuralink staff revealed that they are seeking changes to avoid some of the issues that arose with Nolan Arbo, the first recipient of the brain chip implantation. Neuralink had implanted a BCI device for a quadriplegic patient, Arbo, at the end of last January.

In May, it was reported that some of the threads connecting the chip with the brain became loose in Arbo, reducing the collectible data from the brain. However, Neuralink claims that the issue has been resolved.
