Kim Jong Un Shows Off His New $200K Mercedes-Benz SUV – Sanctions? What Sanctions?

Daniel Kim Views

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was recently seen driving the latest high-end Mercedes-Benz SUV, which was only released in South Korea four months ago.

The Korean Central News Agency reported that a photo from Kim Jong Un’s recent visit to flood-affected areas in Uiju County, North Pyongan Province, shows him in a black SUV with the Mercedes-Benz logo.

When Kim delivered a speech in front of flood victims, using an open train car as his stage, an SUV was parked behind him.

The SUV’s license plate displayed the number 7 27 1953, which marks the Day of Victory in the Great Fatherland Liberation War—North Korea’s celebration of its claimed victory over the U.S. in the Korean War.

This vehicle is believed to be the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4MATIC Facelift. The price in the U.S. starts at $175,500 and goes up to $200,500

Kim was also seen with the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 in a January documentary aired on Korean Central Television. It appears he has since acquired a new Mercedes SUV. This development raises concerns about enforcing United Nations Security Council sanctions against North Korea, which has prohibited vehicle transfers since 2017.

His fondness for Mercedes-Benz vehicles is well-documented. He has been seen arriving at various events, both in North Korea and abroad, in Mercedes vehicles, openly defying international sanctions.
