During her visit to Russia, North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to explore avenues for strengthening cooperation between their countries.
On Friday, the North Korean state-run newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported that Choe, who is in Russia to participate in the 4th Eurasian Women’s Forum and the 1st BRICS Women’s Forum in St. Petersburg, held talks with Lavrov in Moscow on Tuesday.
The report indicated that the two officials engaged in a productive exchange of views aimed at expanding and developing bilateral relations in line with the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between North Korea and Russia. They also sought to enhance mutual cooperation on the international stage, with the conversation characterized as taking place in a warm, comradely atmosphere.
Choe departed Pyongyang on the 16th to attend the forums scheduled to run from the 18th to the 20th.
The ongoing high-level contacts between North Korea and Russia have led to speculation about a potential visit by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to Russia. Notably, Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Russian Security Council, visited Pyongyang last week to discuss the situation with Kim.
