North Korean leader Kim Jong Un congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin on his 72nd birthday, highlighting the growing bond between the two leaders.

The Rodong Sinmun reported on Tuesday that in his message, Kim expressed his “warmest congratulations” to Putin on his birthday.

Kim continued, “I still fondly recall the day on June 19th when we announced the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between our countries in Pyongyang, elevating our traditional North Korea-Russia relationship to a strategic level and deepening our friendship.”

Kim emphasized that the relationship between the two nations would contribute to “maintaining regional and world peace and international justice” as their cooperation reaches “a new trajectory of development.”

In the latter part of his message, Kim referred to Putin as his “closest comrade.” Notably, in a recent congratulatory message to Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday, marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, Kim did not use the term “respected,” which he has frequently employed in the past.
