Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has revealed that his military is tracking North Korean troops deployed in Russia and considering potential preemptive strikes.

In a Telegram message on Saturday, Zelenskyy announced that the U.S., U.K., and Germany are closely monitoring North Korean troop movements, which could soon pose a direct threat to Ukraine.

Zelenskyy also provided details about the location of North Korean training camps and added that preemptive strikes are being considered. However, he emphasized that Ukraine currently lacks the authority to use Western-supplied long-range weapons, which would be necessary to execute such strikes.

The statement came a day after Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) reported that Russia had deployed over 7,000 North Korean troops near Kursk, a critical area in eastern Russia that has seen partial occupation by Ukrainian forces. According to HUR, the North Korean units are equipped with 60mm mortars, AK-12 rifles, anti-tank guided missiles, and man-portable anti-tank grenades.
