Salmon Sperm for Skin? Brazilian Model Swears by This Pricey New Trend

wikitree Views

Brazilian model Janaína Prazeres, 35, has revealed that she undergoes salmon sperm injections.

She receives these injections to maintain the volume and firmness of her buttocks.

The cost is substantial, amounting to approximately £10k (approx. $13,000) per month. Janaína boasts that this method is effective for buttock maintenance.

Salmon sperm injections are also referred to as polynucleotide therapy.

This treatment involves injecting purified and filtered salmon sperm DNA into the skin.

The DNA extracted from salmon sperm promotes the production of collagen and keratinocytes, enhancing skin thickness, elasticity, and hydration.

Polynucleotides, refined DNA extracts from salmon sperm, aid skin regeneration and repair damaged tissues. When injected into the skin, they assist in healthier cell growth and improve skin density and elasticity.

Polynucleotides stimulate collagen production, making the skin thicker and more elastic. When injected, they reduce fine lines and enhance skin elasticity. Additionally, they offer anti-inflammatory and soothing effects, making them helpful in alleviating skin issues like acne, redness, pigmentation, and rosacea.

Salmon sperm injections are primarily used on areas prone to losing elasticity, such as the face, neck, and buttocks. However, the safety of this procedure remains uncertain. There are potential side effects since it involves injecting biological materials into the skin. Individuals with fish allergies may experience reactions to the salmon DNA extract, such as red rashes, itching, swelling, and hives.

Post-procedure, the injection site may develop inflammation or infection, especially if the injection penetrates deep into the skin or sterilization conditions are suboptimal. This can result in redness, pain, and pus formation. Some individuals may develop post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation at the injection site, causing skin darkening.

Sometimes, small nodules or lumps may form at the injection site. While these typically disappear over time, some instances may require removal.

Compared to standard dermatological procedures like Botox, fillers, and PRP, salmon sperm injections are relatively less known and less accessible. The extraction and purification processes make these injections more expensive, potentially posing a financial burden.
