Samsonite, the iconic suitcase brand, just took durability testing to new heights. In a recent campaign making waves, Samsonite launched one of its suitcases nearly 40 kilometers (25 miles) above Earth into the stratosphere. This altitude, where the world fades to pitch black and Earth’s curvature is visible, isn’t your typical testing ground—making one of the most extreme durability tests ever.

The suitcase in question, Samsonite’s latest model, the Proxis, has since earned the nickname “the suitcase sent to space.” The brand teamed up with Sent into Space, a marketing company specializing in out-of-this-world campaigns, to make this celestial journey happen.

The grand launch took place in the Mojave Desert, just a stone’s throw from the glitz of Las Vegas. The Proxis returned to Earth unscathed, demonstrating the brand’s commitment to durability.

Nicole Adriance, senior marketing director at Samsonite, expressed her enthusiasm, noting that the company had developed a bag capable of withstanding the harsh conditions of space. She attributed the achievement to the company’s long-standing focus on durability, a priority for over a century.
