The President-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, has appointed Tesla CEO Elon Musk as the co-head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
On Tuesday, Trump stated on his Truth Social account, “I am pleased to announce that the Great Elon Musk, working in conjunction with American Patriot Vivek Ramaswamy, will lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).”
“Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my administration to dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure federal agencies—essential to the ‘Save America’ Movement,” he added.
Musk, who has been a high-profile Trump supporter throughout the election, seemed enthusiastic, declaring that the appointment “will send shockwaves through the system and expose those contributing to government waste—a lot of people!”
Musk has emerged as a key Trump supporter during this election cycle and had previously hinted at leading this new department if Trump were to reclaim the presidency.
Having gained a reputation for restructuring companies like Tesla and X (formerly Twitter), Musk is expected to lead the reorganization of government structures within the DOGE.
Ramaswamy is an Indian-American entrepreneur with a background in hedge funds and a Harvard education. He briefly ran in the Republican presidential primary this year before withdrawing early in the race.
