Dell Technologies has secured a significant share of the AI chip server market by distributing graphics processing units (GPUs).

On Thursday, the company announced deploying tens of thousands of GPUs to support AI operations at Elon Musk’s supercomputer project in Memphis.

Jeff Clarke, Dell Technologies’ Chief Operating Officer, highlighted the company’s success in deploying GPUs at scale within just a few months. He mentioned that the cluster is still under construction and emphasized how Dell differentiates itself.

While Clarke did not specify Dell’s share of servers or infrastructure contributing to the project, he emphasized that the company aims to secure a fair market share.

Musk’s startup, xAI, is developing large-scale facilities to boost computing power and accelerate the development of AI-based tools.

The Greater Memphis Chamber announced the previous day that NVIDIA, Dell Technologies, and Super Micro Computer will collaborate on this project, which will house at least 1 million GPUs.

Dell Technologies is experiencing strong growth this year, driven by demand for high-performance servers equipped with NVIDIA GPUs essential for running AI workloads.

For the quarter ending November 1, Dell shipped $2.9 billion worth of AI-centric servers.

Despite this growth, Dell Technologies’ stock price closed at $125.41, reflecting a slight decline of less than 1%.
