North Korea claimed on Wednesday and Thursday that it had achieved daily power production plans exceeding last year’s levels at its hydroelectric and thermal power plants.

Citing compiled data, Rodong Sinmun reported on Friday that “thermal power plants, including the Bukchang Thermal Power Complex and the Pyongyang Thermal Power Plant, are operating at full capacity and full load, producing power at high levels.”

The newspaper also stated that power plants such as Supung, Huhchun River, Kanggye Youth, and Sudu actively boost production while implementing measures to enhance water management efficiency and optimize facility operations.

Despite North Korea’s chronic power shortages, the winter season sees even lower power production, contrary to the claims made in Rodong Sinmun. In some regions, residents reportedly receive electricity for only three to four hours per day.
