The Democratic Party has announced plans to reintroduce the “Special Prosecutor Act for Insurrection” to investigate the legality of the December 3rd martial law declaration and expand the scope of the investigation to include foreign exchange crimes.
During a party meeting, Democratic Floor Leader Park Chan Dae stated, “President Yoon Suk Yeol has already been exposed for attempting to provoke a military attack from North Korea to justify the December 3rd insurrection. We will thoroughly uncover the truth behind the foreign exchange crimes that sought to plunge our citizens into the horrors of war.”
Park emphasized the party’s commitment: “No matter how much they try to obstruct, they cannot conceal Yoon’s crimes or prevent his removal from office. The Democratic Party is committed to everything to hold him and his associates accountable for their reckless actions to protect our nation and its people.”
After the National Assembly failed to pass a re-vote on the Special Prosecutor Act the previous day, the party decided to revise the process for recommending candidates for the special prosecutor position. Instead of nominations from ruling and opposition parties, a third party will now make recommendations. Park explained that they would also broaden the investigation’s scope to include foreign exchange crimes, which were not part of the original bill.
Park further criticized Yoon’s legal team for refusing to comply with the arrest warrant. “Yoon’s lawyer has made it clear that they will not comply with the execution of the arrest warrant, resorting to absurd arguments,” Park said. “I call on the Corruption Investigation Office and the police joint investigation team to arrest him as soon as possible, with unwavering determination, even if it means burning our bridges.”
